The Milbank FFA Chapter’s dairy cattle judging team attended the World Dairy Expo and competed in the dairy cattle judging career development event on September 29, in Madison, Wisconsin. MHS team members included Keara Van Hoorn and Cassidy and Brooke Schwagel. Kylene Bowen also participated in the practice round of judging. The team was accompanied by their coach, Suzanne Souza.
The FFA event consisted of two different heats with 230 FFA members each. Both heats placed four classes of dairy cows and/or heifers. Classes were selected from Holstein, Brown Swiss, Jersey, Guernsey, Ayrshire, Milking Shorthorn, and Red and White cattle. Superintendent of the event was Dr. Mark Zidon of the University of Wisconsin-Platteville, School of Agriculture.
The World Dairy Expo is the largest dairy-focused trade show in the world and featured 650 companies from 19 countries and 1,600 dairy cattle exhibitors. It is an international showcase for elite dairy cattle, cutting edge research, modern technologies, and education.
