CANCELLATION: Last Food Giveaway of the Year Called Off

The last food giveaway of the year, scheduled for Wednesday, October 27, has been cancelled due to the forecasted inclement weather and lack of shelter during the giveaway.

Brenda Maass, coordinator of the Grant County Service Council’s food giveaways, says, “The decision to cancel the giveaway was extremely difficult to make as we know there are families in need of food.  But, there are a couple of different avenues available to help families in Grant County.”

Maass first refers those in need to the Grant County Food Pantry located on the first floor of the Grant County Courthouse. The pantry is open Monday through Friday. Call 605.432.6571 to schedule an appointment.  

“There are no income guidelines to receive food from the pantry,” Maass says,  “however, you must be a Grant County resident, and you will be asked to fill out paperwork with questions regarding your household.” She says,”Families can receive food one time per month and up to six times per year from the pantry.” Maass also reminds everyone of the option to receive a holiday box — available for Thanksgiving or Christmas. Requests are processed by the ICAP office. Seniors who meet income guidelines can apply for the Senior Box program. The Senior Box program supplies qualifying seniors with a box of food each month.

Simply call Val in the ICAP office, and she will arrange a time for you to fill out the paperwork. The Christian Service Council will review the request and do their best to help lessen your financial burden.”
