The South Dakota Department of Transportation (SDDOT) announced today S.D. Highway 15 near LaBolt commonly referred to as the 8-Mile Corner will reopen to all traffic on Thursday, November 18.

S.D. Highway 15 was reconstructed from U.S. Highway 212 north 12 miles to the north junction of S.D. Highway 20. Construction included grading, six new box culverts, interim surfacing, permanent signage, and striping.

Although the 12-mile section of highway will be open to traffic, its interim surfacing phase has not been completed, and motorists are advised to use caution. The SDDOT suggests motorists slow down and watch for any rough sections of roadway that could occur due to weather conditions.

Construction is expected to resume on the interim surfacing work in the spring of 2022. Permanent surfacing is planned for summer 2022. SDDOT reports: The cost of the project was bid at $13.4 million. The contract interim completion date was scheduled for November 19, and the project completion date is June 11, 2022.
