Lady Bulldog Lydia Street received the Presiding Officer Award and Camila Monroy was the top congressperson at the Watertown Speech Fiesta held January 21-22. The Fiesta included 175 students from 19 schools.

According to KathyTyler, coach for the MHS team, all of Milbank’s public forum debaters and student congress members made it on stage. She said, “Of eleven teams, our two teams of Qualon Grant and Shane Spiering and Rylen Frerichs and Max Schuelke made it into the semifinal bracket of Novice Public Forum with records of 4-0 and 3-1 respectively.”

“In the semifinal round, Grant and Spiering lost to the team that had previously beaten Max and Rylen. Max and Rylen won their semifinal round with a 3-0 judges decision and advanced to the championship round,” Tyler added. “There, they met their nemesis again, but won the round at 2-1. The boys again received top speaker points and excellent comments from the judges. It was a good day!”

Brooke Schwagel participated in Drama Interp. She ranked fourth, fourth, and third in each of her rounds. Milbank also placed near the top in the A Division Sweepstakes.They finished just seven points behind Beresford to take third place.
What’s next for the Bulldogs? Milbank travels to Yankton this Friday and Saturday, January 28-29 to compete in the Lewis and Clark Invitational.
