Mrs. Cindy Jungers, the Junior Kindergarten teacher at Milbank Elementary was chosen as Milbank School District Teacher of the Year for 2022 by parents and staff. Cindy’s husband, Jerry, along with students and teachers attended the surprise ceremony held in the Milbank Elementary Library on Tuesday morning February 15. Cindy said, “It was extra special because the school arranged to have my kids join the celebration by zoom.”
Mrs. Jungers was hired at St. Lawrence School in 1996 as the preschool teacher. She then taught Kindergarten. After teaching 16 years at St. Lawrence School, she moved to Koch School. When she retires in May from Milbank Elementary, she will have taught 10 years.
Mrs. Jungers, a Dakota State College graduate, taught third grade for 18 years in her hometown of Estelline, South Dakota before coming to Milbank.
When not in the classroom Cindy loves reading, being in her perennial garden and spending time with family and friends. The Jungers have three grown children. Their oldest daughter, Cassie, lives in Oregon with her husband Dustin Henze, and their children, Harper (8) and Max (5). Tiffany lives in the Washington DC area with her husband Nick, and two rescue dogs. Their son, Jordan, lives in Sioux Falls while working toward his degree in nursing.
Mrs. Jungers said, “My favorite thing about teaching Junior Kindergarten is their love of learning! They are so full of positive energy and always ready to do their best!”
Jungers now becomes eligible for the regional teacher of the year award and, if chosen, will be eligible for South Dakota’s teacher of the year award.
Included is the parent nomination letter and a note of praise from Mrs. Junger’s former student.
