February 21-25 is School Board Recognition Week in South Dakota. The week is set aside to acknowledge the dedication of the men and women who are locally elected to establish the policies that provide the framework for our public schools. The Valley Express honors the Milbank School District’s trustees for their commitment to our area’s schools and students.
The Milbank School District’s board of education members count a combined 57 years of experience serving as board members. Milbank’s team includes: president Dick Schwandt, Milt Stengel, Tracy Upton, Amy Thue, and Jon Christensen. Superintendent Justin Downes thanked the group “for all the hours, emails, phone calls, and everything else they do to truly serve our community and our school district.”
According to the Associated School Boards of South Dakota (ASBSD) over 850 members work on over 149 school boards across the state.
