MHS Musicians Perform at Region III Band Solo and Ensemble Contest

Milbank High School sent 111 band members to perform at the Region III Solo and Ensemble Music Contest on February 23 at Watertown High School. Milbank’s entourage included 39 soloists and 13 ensemble groups. They received five Superior Plus ratings, 20 Superior ratings, 25 Excellent ratings, and two Good ratings.

All performances were judged on tone, intonation, rhythm, interpretation or musicianship, and technique, along with other performance factors. Each area of concern was worth five points and the total at the end of each performance determined the overall rating.

The brass and woodwind ensemble ratings include: Superior (I) 35-31 points, Excellent (II) 30-26 points, Good (III) 25-21 points, Fair (IV) 20-16 points, and Poor (V) 15 and under. The brass and woodwind solo ratings include: Superior (I) 30-26 points, Excellent (II) 25-21 points, Good (III) 20-16 points, Fair (IV) 15-11 points, and Poor (V) 10 and under. The percussion solo and ensemble ratings include: Superior (I) 25-21 points, Excellent (II) 20-16 points, Good (III) 15-11 points, Fair (IV) 10-6 points, and Poor (V) 6 and under.

The students are under the direction of Mrs. Susan Karels. Mrs. Bobbi Jo Meyer, Mrs. Pam Neugebauer, Mrs. Elizabeth Schulte, Mrs. Kristi Seehafer, Dani Yamaura, and Hailey Hupke provided accompaniment.
