Kevin Owen, Grant County Sheriff, reports deputies conducted two traffic stops in one week that led to felony drug arrests. According to the sheriff’s office:
In the early evening hours of April 15, a deputy with the Grant County Sheriff’s Office initiated a traffic stop on US Highway 12 near United Hardware. During the traffic stop, the deputy noticed signs of drug activity. Further investigation revealed the presence of methamphetamine.
The driver, Ramon Martinez from Jamestown North Dakota, was arrested for possession of a controlled substance, a felony; possession of drug paraphernalia, a misdemeanor; and being an unlicensed driver, also a misdemeanor. Martinez was booked in the Grant County Detention Center.
Late in the evening on April 21, a deputy with the Grant County Sheriff’s Office initiated a traffic stop on US Highway 12 on the west side of Milbank. During the traffic stop, the deputy observed signs of drug activity taking place inside the vehicle. Upon further investigation, the presence of methamphetamine was discovered.
Passengers in the vehicle, Laura Lawrence and Yvonne Sheriff, both residents of Minnesota, were arrested for possession of a controlled substance, a felony, and possession of drug paraphernalia, a misdemeanor. Both female passengers were booked into the Grant County Detention Center. The Milbank Police Department assisted with the investigation.
