Milbank debaters competed in their first big tournament of the season and brought home the Class A Golden Eagle Cup.  The debate and individual event tournament is held annually at  Aberdeen Central High School.

Max Schuelke was the champion debater in novice Lincoln Douglas. Shane Spiering took third place in novice extemp. Camila Monroy received Outstanding Presiding Officer in Student Congress. In all, 14 Milbank students participated in 10 events.   Total team points are determined by adding the top two placings for each team/individual event in which a school has entered.  Milbank had 12 entries with a total of 174 points. This gave them sixth place out of the 23 schools from around the state and first place in the Class A division.

Kathy Tyler, debate coach for MHS, accompanied the students to Aberdeen. Tyler commented, “To say receiving this award was exciting is an understatement. Credit goes to students who went out of their comfort zones to enter events that weren’t quite their forte.”

What’s next? The Bulldogs travel to Sioux Falls Roosevelt on Saturday, November 12.
