Milbank Musicians to Perform in Honor Band

The 31st Annual South Dakota North Area Honor Band will perform in concert on Saturday, December 3, at 4 p.m. in the Johnson Fine Arts Center on the campus of Northern State University in Aberdeen.  Dr. Haley Armstrong, who is the director of bands and coordinator of musical activities at South Dakota School of Mines and Technology, will direct the 2022 event. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for students in first through 12th grade.

Approximately 100 students from 24 schools have been selected to participate in the honor band. Participating schools and their directors include:  Aberdeen Central – Jeremy Schutter and John Patzlaff; Aberdeen Christian – Kimberly Steger; Aberdeen Roncalli – Kimberly Carda and Molly Royals; Bowdle – Sarah Rathert; Clark – Amy Nelson; Eureka – Dale Batie; Gettysburg – Walker Rose; Great Plains Lutheran – Eric Martens; Groton Area – Desiree Yeigh; Herried – Julie Borr; Hoven – Elizabeth Bengs; Howard – Jean Morrison; Huron – James Stueckrath; Ipswich – Becky Nierman; Langford – Kelly Wieser; Leola – Nancy Kindelspire; Milbank – Susan Karels; Northwestern – Wendy Thorson; Selby Area – Noelle Allerdings; Sully Buttes – Erica Paxton; Summit – Daniel Jimenez; Warner – Sophie Olson; and Wilmot – Ellie Helgeson.

Musicians from Milbank High School who will perform include: Front Row:  Isabella Vogel (junior flute); Krista Nies (freshman trombone); Addie Farrell (senior clarinet); Ellie Neugebauer (senior clarinet); Katie Kruger (sophomore alto sax); Emily Jo Wollschlager (senior trumpet); Sophia Whitlow (junior clarinet); and Hope Karels (junior bass clarinet).
Second Row:  Ruth Luis Gomez (sophomore flute); Alex DeLaRosa (sophomore bass clarinet); Gemma Street; Laney Forrette (senior clarinet); Shane Spiering (sophomore bari sax); Luis Berrones (senior bass clarinet); Merik Junker (senior percussion); Joe Schulte (junior euphonium); and Carter Phinney (senior trumpet).

The students will be accompanied to the event by Susan Karels, Milbank’s band instructor, and Deb Rausch.
