Grant and Frerichs Take First at Fargo Debate Tournament

Qualon Grant and Rylen Frerichs, members of Milbank’s Junior Varsity Public Forum debate team, placed first in the Fargo Davies Debate Tournament held December 3 in Fargo, North Dakota.  Coach Kathy Tyler said, “Grant and Frerichs won all seven of their rounds in the B division which had 42 teams, all from large schools, including Brookings and Aberdeen.”

Tyler explained, “North Dakota has only two divisions for debate, A and B.  A is for varsity and veteran junior varsity debaters. Beginning JV debaters and novice are in the B division. 

What’s next? The Bulldogs will attend one more tournament this year. The Brookings Bell will be held December 16-17.  All Milbank debate students will be attending and participating in at least one event.  
Tyler also noted, “The debate class ends at semester time, but the debate season continues until the first weekend in March and culminates with the state tournament. “
