Joel Foster, executive director of the Grant County Farm Service Agency (FSA) reminds agricultural producers of the March 15 and March 31 deadlines for several USDA programs.

Agricultural producers can change election and enroll in the Agriculture Risk Coverage (ARC) and Price Loss Coverage (PLC) programs for the 2023 crop year offered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) through March 15. Producers can elect coverage and enroll in ARC-County (ARC-CO) or PLC, which provide crop-by-crop protection, or ARC-Individual (ARC-IC), which protects the entire farm. Although election changes for 2023 are optional, producers must enroll by submitting a signed contract each year.

The FSA’s Noninsured Crop Disaster Assistance Program (NAP) helps producers manage risk with coverage for both crop losses and crop planting that was prevented due to natural disasters. The eligible or “noninsured” crops include agricultural commodities not covered by federal crop insurance. The final date to obtain 2023 NAP coverage is March 15.

The deadline for farmers to make crop insurance elections for the 2023 crop year is also March 15. This is the last date to apply for crop insurance coverage for any of the various Federal Crop Insurance Corporation (FCIC) policies or make changes in coverage from the previous year. Producers need to contact their crop insurance agent for information on crop insurance policies or visit www.rma.usda.gov.

Marketing Assistance Loans (MALs) provide financing and marketing assistance for wheat, feed grains, soybeans and other oilseeds, pulse crops, wool, and honey. MALs provide interim financing for up to nine months to help meet cash flow needs without having to sell commodities until market prices are more favorable. The deadline to request 2022 crop MALs for most small grains such as wheat is March 31. The deadline date to request 2022 crop MALs for row crops such as corn and soybeans is May 31.Find additional information related to FSA programs at  http://www.fsa.usda.gov [http://www.fsa.usda.gov If you should have any Questions?
