Vocalist Nick Fonder received the only I+ rating at the 2023 Region III Solo and Ensemble Music Contest The 35 vocal soloists and 35 members of the Milbank High School Choir performed in front of an adjudicator on Wednesday, March 1, in Milbank. MHS vocalists received: One Superior Plus (I+), 24 Superiors (I) and 15 Excellent (II) ratings.
Solo performances were based on: tone, intonation, accuracy, interpretation, vocal technique, and other performance factors such as literature choice and professional conduct. Ensemble groups were also critiqued on balance and blending. Each area of concern was worth five points and the total at the end of each performance resulted in the overall rating.
The students are under the direction of Mrs. Miriam Schwenn. Mrs. Kristi Seehafer and Mrs. Deb Rausch helped to prepare the voice students and offered musical assistance.
