Whetstone Valley Electric Coop (WVEC) sustained two outages during a storm on Friday night, March 31. According to Dave Page, general manager of WVEC, one outage affected nine members near Browns Valley, Minnesota, and the other outage impacted 52 service locations at SoDak Beach on Big Stone Lake. Each outage lasted about 9.5 hours.

Page said, “The outages resulted when primary line breakers opened after overhead lines were shorted out by high wind or tree limbs.” He stated the system did not sustain any damage.

“Line crews attempted to make restorations on Friday evening,” Page explained, “but poor visibility and impassable roads delayed the repairs until Saturday morning. Based on the information supplied by our dispatchers and the experience of the line crews, we were able to identify the location of the open breakers, but traveling to those locations proved to be challenging.”

Page thanked the line technicians for restoring the power in very difficult weather and driving conditions. He also thanked the WVEC members for their patience and understanding during the storm and its aftermath.
