Bri Hicks and Tanen Schnieg, Lincoln-Douglas teammates and members of the MHS novice debate team, tied for third place at the Brookings Novice Tournament... Hicks and Schmieg Tie for Third at Brookings Debate

Bri Hicks and Tanen Schnieg, Lincoln-Douglas teammates and members of the MHS novice debate team, tied for third place at the Brookings Novice Tournament on October 30. Hicks and Schmieg each won two of their three rounds. 

The public forum teams also opened their season at the Brookings tourney. Preston Laskowski and Franklin Peterson finished with a 1-2 record. The duos of Carter Folk and Parker Grabow and Jenna Korstjens and Taylor Hallquist ended the day at 0-3.

Coach Kathy Tyler commented, “It was an eye opening experience for all! The debaters discovered that practice at school just isn’t the same as a tournament. Everyone learned. 

What’s next? The MHS novice team will host a tournament on Tuesday, November 7. The action gets started at 3:35 p.m. Everyone is welcome to attend. Varsity debaters travel to Aberdeen on the November 3 -4 for their first tournament of the season.
