Joel Foster, executive director of the Grant County FSA, reminds agricultural producers and private landowners they have until March 29 to sign up for the USDA general Conservation Reserve Program (CRP).

Signed into law in 1985, the CRPprogram was originally intended to primarily control soil erosion and potentially stabilize commodity prices by taking marginal lands out of production. Today, as one of the largest private lands conservation programs in the United States, CRP offers a range of conservation options to farmers, ranchers, and landowners. It has been an especially strong opportunity for farmers with less productive or marginal cropland by helping them to re-establish valuable land cover in an effort to improve water quality, prevent soil erosion, and support wildlife habitat.

Additional information related to CRP and other programs can be found at USDA Farm Service Agency Home Page Questions? Need to make an appointment,? Contact the Grant County FSA office at 605.432.6570, ext. 2.
