MHS HOSA Students Qualify for Int’l Conference in Houston

Eleven MHS HOSA members qualified for the 2024 HOSA International Leadership Conference to be held June 26-29 in Houston. The students punched their tickets at the 10th Annual South Dakota HOSA-Future Health Professionals Leadership Conference held April 11-12 in Sioux Falls. Kaia Tillotson was also elected as  South Dakota’s new state HOSA vice president. Tillotson’s election marked the first time an MHS student has been elected to a HOSA state office.

South Dakota’s conference welcomed over 800 attendees and featured over 55 events and 40 breakout sessions. Events were held at the Sanford Pentagon, Sanford Fieldhouse, the University of South Dakota’s Sioux Falls Campus, and Southeast Technical College.

Attendees were offered 12 tours along with a college and career fair and an awards banquet. Students were also given the opportunity to compete for scholarships and earn their way to the conference in Houston. 

Johanna Fischer, HOSA adviser and school nurse at MHS and MS said,  “I am extremely proud and grateful for the amazing group of HOSA students we have this year. Our chapter grew over 40 percent.” Fischer also noted, “The group’s Cold Stone ice cream fundraiser not only raised $1240 for BE THE MATCH bone marrow donor program, but also earned us the award for most money raised in the state for the foundation.”
