Two MHS Teams Qualify for FFA Nationals

Two Milbank FFA teams qualified for Nationals during South Dakota’s state FFA  convention on April 18-20 in Brookings. The MHS Milk Quality and Products team composed of Veronica Fonder (2nd), Moregean French (5th), Jacob Erickson (8th), and Joseph French (13th) punched their ticket with a first-place team finish.

The MHS Food Science division, composed of Raul Berrones (1st), Grace Weston (2nd), Sunne DeBoer (4th), and Samuel Shelstad (12th) also earned a berth at the national contest in Indianapolis October 23-26. In all, the Bulldogs had five teams that placed in the top 10 in their division at the state contest.

Also at State, Raul Beronnes was elected as the South Dakota FFA Vice President.

Several agriscience students from the Milbank area received their state degrees: Raul Berrones Pedraza, Nicholas Fonder, Landon Novy, Brooke Schwagel, Cailey Sime, Avery VanOverbeke, and Grace Weston from Milbank and Julia Anderson and Paige Johnson from Wilmot. Sara Colombe, MHS agriculture education teacher and adviser to the Milbank FFA Chapter, accompanied the students to Brookings.

Natural Resources – 27th Place (Carter Gloe-31st, Megan Wiese-101st, Ashlynn Lamp-128th, Landon Novy-134th)

Dairy Cattle – 8th Place (Mackenzie Mueller-16th, Kalli Moser-28th, Estelle Schweer-61st, Leah Meyer-84th)

Vet Science – Kayla Schweer-29th and Bri Hicks-63rd
