Stella Wendland of Milbank, Julia Anderson of Wilmot, and Jackson Wohlleber of Summit were honored at the 34th Annual Academic Excellence Recognition Luncheon, sponsored by South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem’s office. The event, held in Pierre, recognized students who ranked in the top one percent of their senior class in the state’s public, private, and tribal-BIE schools.

The honorees received a certificate signed by Governor Noem and a commemorative South Dakota pin. Lieutenant Governor Larry Rhoden attended the event and students had the opportunity to have their photo taken with him. Musical entertainment was provided by the Woonsocket High School Choir.

“What a privilege it is for me to be here,” Rhoden told the seniors. “I want to congratulate each and every one of you. It’s clear your futures are very bright and preparing for your future is our priority.”

Louann Krogman, president of the Associated School Boards of South Dakota (ASBSD), also congratulated the students by saying, “You have worked so hard to reach the academic heights you have and we’re thrilled to be able to recognize your achievement.”

Dr. Douglas R. Wermedal, executive director of ASBSD, encouraged the students to “Make sure you recognize and celebrate your academic excellence and the families who supported you.”
