The polls will remain open from 7 a.m.until 7 p.m. on Tuesday, June 4, to conduct South Dakota’s Primary Election. The election is the precursor to the Presidential General Election to be held on Tuesday, November 5.  Voters will receive a ballot coinciding with their party registration (except for voters registered as an Independent or No Party Affiliation (NPA)). Two local non-partisan issues, however, will be decided on Tuesday during this election:

  1. Grant County Voters will decide whether or not to approve the issuance of $6 million in general obligation bonds by Grant County to fund the construction of a new jail. 
  2. Voters in the Big Stone City School District will vote whether or not to approve the district’s reorganization-closure plan. 

Who are the candidates on my ballot?
Depending on your party registration, your ballot will look different. The Democrats have put forth Marianne Williamson, (Dean Phillips withdrawn), Joseph R. Biden, Jr., and Armando Perez-Serrato. The winner will face Donald J. Trump in November. In the race for the U. S. Representative for South Dakota,  Dusty Johnson, Republican, and Sheryl Johnson, Democrat, are both running unopposed and will face off in November.

The Republican primary ballot will include State Senator for District Four, Voters have the choice of either Fred Deutsch or Stephanie Sauder. In the race for State Representative for District Four, voters will choose two candidates from among Dylan C. Jordan, Vanessa Namken, Barbara Guenette, and Kent Roe.

All Milbank City residents vote at the Community Room of the Milbank Visitor Center at 1001 E. 4th Avenue.
Adams Township, the Towns of Albee, Revillo, and Vernon Township vote at the Revillo Community Center, 310 N. 2nd Avenue in Revillo. 
Alban Township votes at the Whetstone Valley Electric Meeting Room, 1101 E. 4th Avenue in Milbank. Big Stone City and Township vote at the  Big Stone City Office, 400 Washington Street in Big Stone City. 
Blooming Valley, Farmington, and Lura Townships, vote at the New Township Hall, 15048 455th Avenue in Summit. 
Georgia Township, the Town of LaBolt, and Madison Township vote at  Emily’s Place, 140 Main Street in LaBolt. 
Grant Center Township votes at the Whetstone Valley Electric Meeting Room, 1101 E. 4th Avenue in Milbank. 
Melrose Township votes at  Grant County Public Library, 207 E. Park Avenue in Milbank.
Mazeppa-Osceola Township and the Town of Marvin vote at the Marvin Fire Hall, 118 Church Street in Marvin. 
Stockholm residents and Township vote at the Community Center, 400 E. Johnson Avenue in Stockholm. 
Troy Township and the Town of Strandburg vote at  Rufer’s General Store, 123 S. Main Street in Strandburg. 
Twin Brooks residents and Township and Kilborn Township vote at the Twin Brooks Community Center, 502 Lasell Street in Twin Brooks.

Voters with disabilities can contact the Grant County Auditor at 605-432- 6711 for polling-place accessibility. 

If you have not already registered to vote – the deadline was May 20– you will not be able to participate in this election. Be sure to register anytime by Monday, October 21, to be eligible to vote on November 5 in the Presidential General Election.
