The results are in! Unofficial results from South Dakota’s 2024 Primary Election at 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 4, showed Grant County voters overwhelmingly are in favor of building a new jail. Election officials reported 1002 residents or 77% voted to support the issuance of $6 million in general obligation bonds to fund the construction of a new facility; 293 residents, or 23%, voted against the project estimated to cost $6.8 million. 

Approximately 70% of voters in Grant County decided to approve the reorganization plan of the Big Stone School District. At the polls, 80 voters marked yes and 35 voters marked no. Roberts County 55 voters, or 80%, marked yes; 14 voters were opposed. A simple majority was required for the plan to pass. 

In the race to determine the Republican candidate for state senator in District 04, Stephanie Sauder is projected to be the winner. Sauder received 1868 votes or 51%, and Fred Deutsch collected 1804 or 49%. (Total 3672)  A request from Deutsch is a possibility.  Deutsch, however, won in Grant County. He received 564 votes and Sauder received 368. 

In the race to determine the two Republican candidates for state representative in District 04,  Dylan Jordan received 25% of the votes – 1585; Kent Roe received 32%– 1996; Vanessa Namken  received 23% of the votes – 1427; and Barbara Guenette received  20% – 1264. (Total votes – 6272.) In Grant County, Jordan earned 477 votes for 31%; Namken received 375 for 24%; Guenette received 311 for 20%, and Roe 390 for 25%.

The canvass of the June 4 Primary Election will take place on Thursday, June 7, at the Grant County Commissioners meeting.
