Over 500 firefighters were offered over 30 classes during the South Dakota Firefighters Association annual state fire school in Watertown. The training sessions were held June 13-15 at the LATI campus, Performance Towing, and the Watertown Fire and Rescue – West Station training facility.

Firefighters who serve Grant County attended from Big Stone, Summit, and Milbank. The goal of the school is to gain fire service knowledge from classes that range from the fundamentals to in-depth training for challenging incidents.

“It’s not only the educational aspect,” says Kevin Schuelke, fire administrator for the Milbank department, “but also the networking members build over the years. I think it’s great these individuals take the time out of their life to further enhance fire service skills. Firefighters are constantly adapting to our changing world and what they are faced with.”
