Nine members of the Milbank HOSA organization joined over 10,000 other students from across the world at the HOSA International Leadership Conference (HOSA ILC) held June 26-29 at the George R. Brown Convention Center in downtown Houston. James Batchelor, Joshua Keeton, Jericho Jones, Kynlee Speidel, Gemma Street, Jacynda Street, Olivia Wendland, Stella Wendland, and Max Schuelke represented Milbank.

Students competed in various healthcare-related events for the top three places in each category. They also enjoyed pin-trading with other HOSA members, attending breakout educational sessions, listening to speakers, acquiring hands-on experience at the EXPO, and experiencing the awards ceremony. The MHS students also used their free day to visit the pier and beach at Galveston and explore Galveston’s local tourist attractions.

Johanna Fischer, adviser and chaperone for the Milbank HOSA group, commented, “HOSA ILC is always such a great experience for the students. It gives them an opportunity to network with other students from across the world who are also interested in the healthcare field. I am incredibly proud of the group of students that went and the amount of poise and maturity they displayed.” Fischer added, “This trip would not have been possible without our community support and our local sponsors.”
