The Bulldogs will play Vermillion tomorrow night at the Dakota Dome on the campus of the University of South Dakota. The matchup is the Homecoming game for the Tanagers of Vermillion High School and kick-off will be at 6 p.m. – an hour earlier than the majority of football games across the state.

Milbank’s record sits at 2-2, and Vermillion comes in at 1-3. The Tanagers have played in the Dome twice this season and took losses to Lennox (13-38) and Canton (31-45). Vermillion’s lone win came on the road against Lakota Tech (55-0).

Milbank is hoping to bounce back from a 42-7 loss to Dell Rapids last week at home. The Quarriers, who came to town ranked at No. 4  by South Dakota’s football coaches, demonstrated a strong offense and a strong defense. The Bulldogs, who were missing some of their key players, struggled to move the ball.

Dell Rapids led 21-0 after the first quarter and 36-0 at half time and throughout the third quarter. Dell Rapids also added one more TD early in the fourth quarter. Milbank’s magic moment came in the fourth quarter. Sam Rick, a 5 ‘ 11’ -155-pound sophomore, surprised the Quarriers  when he broke away from the pack to run 80 yards on a kick-off return for a TD. Moises Luna kicked to add the extra point. The Bulldogs ran out of time to fight back much more, but they left the Quarriers with a parting scratch.

Rick recorded five receptions. Mason Allen and Jaxson Wiese each had one. Bennett Hunt made six tackles. Ethan Owen pulled down five tackles.  Braylen Bowsher and Oliver Korth each made two. Allen, Rick, and Keaton Johnson made one apiece. Rick and Wiese each gained possession for the Bulldogs on a fumble recovery
