John Trevett, a 1982  graduate of Milbank High School and John “Jack” Hurley, a 1969 alumnus, were inducted into the Northern State University Athletic Hall of Fame for 2024.  

Trevett received the honor along with the other members of the 1984-85 NSU wrestling team. That year, the Wolves wrestlers turned around their previous losing season to go 10-3 in dual competition. They finished as the South Dakota Intercollegiate Conference runners-up and won the District 12 Championship under the direction of head coach Fran Hummel. The Wolves qualified 10 grapplers for the 1985 NAIA National Tournament and finished third as a team.

Trevett currently serves as the food services director for the Milbank School District. He is also the coach of the Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs pole vaulters on the MHS track and field teams.

Hurley, who graduated from NSU in 1973 with a B.S. in education, was a member of the Northern’s football and track and field teams from 1969 -72. He started on the offensive line for a Wolves team that went 22-7 in three seasons. Northern’s offense outscored their opponents 1,032 – 416 to lead the district and conference in rushing and passing in 1970, 1971, and 1972.  He was honored as a co-captain in the fall of 1972, alongside Pat Murphy. Hurley earned both All-SDIC and All-District First Team honors in his final two seasons on the gridiron. 

Hurley and his 1969 teammates were also inducted into the Northern State Athletics Hall of Fame as a team in 2018.  In addition, the former MHS Bulldog field star, qualified for the NAIA National Championships in the discus in 1971 and 1972 while attending NSU.

Hurley is married to Milbank native  Susan (Iverson) Hurley. The couple resides in O’Neill, Nebraska.
