Three adult males on a 2024 CAN-AM Defender side-by-side fell through the ice on Big Stone Lake this morning, January 2.  According to the Big Stone County Sheriff’s Department, the men were pulling a permanent ice house over the lake when they encountered a heave and the vehicle began to submerge. The men were able to evacuate the ATV before it was completely immersed and they phoned  911. The call came in at approximately 11:32 a.m. and the sheriff’s office responded to the scene near Rustling Elms Resort.

No injuries were reported. The Big Stone County Sheriff’s Office stated the removal of the ATV and the ice house is expected to take several days.
