Schuelke Chosen Debate Student of the Year for SD’s Northern District

Max Schuelke, a student at MHS, has been chosen as South Dakota’s Northern District Debate Student of the Year for 2025. The Northern district includes schools such as Brookings, Watertown, Milbank, Huron,and Aberdeen. Coaches nominate a graduating senior who represents the tenets of the association’s code of honor: humility, equity, integrity, respect, leadership, and service.
The student who wins the district award becomes a finalist for the William Woods Tate, Jr., National Student of the Year Award. The National Student of the Year will be announced during the awards assembly at the 2025 National Speech and Debate Association Tournament to be held June 15-20 in Des Moines, Iowa.
