The Roberts County Sheriff, the Milbank Police Department, and the Big Stone County Sheriff all report their offices are pursuing investigations into a string of motor vehicle-related crimes and burglaries in the Milbank, Corona, Wilmot, Summit, and Ortonville areas. The incidents are believed to have occurred during the nights of April 29 and April 30.

This morning, May 1, the Big Stone County Sheriff’s Office received multiple reports from residents in Ortonville who noted vehicles had been unlawfully entered and searched. Two vehicles were reported stolen from separate Ortonville residences.

The stolen vehicles have not been recovered and are described as:

  • Tan, – 2004 Chevrolet Silverado (Extended Cab Pickup)
    • Minnesota License Plate: RZH507
  • Red – 2009 Chevrolet Silverado (Crew Cab Pickup)
    • South Dakota License Plate: 18009C
    • Notable Features: Dump box insert in the pickup bed and business stickers on the vehicle’s windows.

According to the Roberts County Sheriff, surveillance footage has been obtained from residents, but they remain interested in additional home or business security camera footage from those dates and dashcam footage that includes questionable activity from vehicles traveling through the area at that time. Anyone who witnessed suspicious behavior during the past two nights is also encouraged to come forward.

Area residents are urged to remain vigilant and to remove valuables and keys from their vehicles and to check that all vehicle doors are locked. Everyone is also advised to secure all home doors every night.
