State, county, and interstate roadways across the region reopened Sunday morning, March 15, but local officials are urging motorists to remain cautious as strong winds continue to impact travel.
Grant County Emergency Management Director Kevin Schuelke announced at approximately 10:00 a.m. that travel routes are once again open following Saturday evening weather-related closures.
“State, county and interstate roadways are now open,” Schuelke reported. Although roads are passable, Schuelke emphasized that conditions remain less than ideal due to ongoing wind and drifting snow.
“Please use extreme caution traveling as winds are continuing until the evening hours,” he said. “Roadways may have drifting with county roads near shelterbelt areas having snow and one lane.”
Shelterbelts and rural stretches of road are particularly prone to drifting, which can quickly reduce driving lanes and create hazardous conditions for motorists.
Schuelke also thanked residents for their patience during the closures and reminded travelers to continue putting safety first. “Thanks for your cooperation,” he added. “Stay safe, friends.”
Drivers are encouraged to slow down, watch for drifting snow, and allow extra time when traveling throughout Grant County and surrounding areas as winds are expected to persist through the evening.
