Area firefighters were on scene for approximately four hours on Saturday, April 18, to quell a fire at Victory Farms, a dairy feeding operation south of Milbank.

Milbank Fire and Rescue responded at 9:49 a.m., along with mutual aid from the Big Stone Fire Department and the Revillo Fire Department. The caller reported a tractor fire inside a steel shed used to store straw and sawdust.

“Three departments shuttling water allowed for a large enough volume of water to knock down the fire growth of the straw within the structure. This  kept the fire from spreading to the many calf huts in close proximity,” said Kevin Schuelke, fire administrator for Milbank Fire and Rescue.”  Once the flames were controlled, “excavators and payloaders were then able to remove the remaining straw.” The building sustained major heat damage, but no other details regarding the loss were available.

Agencies that also provided assistance: Grant County Emergency Management, Grant-Roberts Ambulance, the Grant County Sheriff’s Office, and Otter Tail Power.
