
Kalli Moser competed with some of the best young bakers in the country at the 2026 Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) National Leadership Conference (NLC), held July 6–10 in Washington, D.C.
During the Baking and Pastry STAR (Students Taking Action with Recognition) competition, Moser was required to complete a series of recipes in two hours and 45 minutes. Moser whipped up orange cranberry scones, éclairs, and chocolate butter cookies. She also completed a cake decorating project.
The Baking and Pastry event challenges students to demonstrate technical knowledge and hands-on skills by preparing and presenting a variety of baked goods while meeting industry standards for food safety, time management, and professional presentation.
Milbank FCCLA chapter adviser Sara Koepke, who accompanied Moser to the conference,commended her dedication throughout the competition process.

“Kalli’s commitment, hard work, and willingness to challenge herself on the national stage are something our chapter is incredibly proud of,” said Koepke. “Representing Milbank at the National Leadership Conference is an outstanding accomplishment, and earning a bronze medal reflects the time and effort she invested in preparing for this event.” FCCLA STAR events also recognize members for proficiency and achievement in chapter and individual projects, leadership development, and career preparation.
The FCCLA national conference brought together over 10,000 of the 250,000 members of the 5,2000 active chapters in the country to celebrate accomplishments, develop leadership skills, and explore career pathways. Leadership workshops, networking opportunities, and sessions featuring career and industry professionals were also offered.. In celebration of the nation’s 250th anniversary, attendees also gathered for the Rock the Red Rally and visited many of Washington, D.C.’s historic monuments and memorials.
