Milbank Area Chamber Members Elect New Leadership

Two new board members were elected to fill open positions on the board of the Milbank Area Chamber of Commerce (MACC) during the Chamber’s annual meeting held at The Pump on Tuesday, September 29. Becky Boswell outgoing president conducted the meeting. 

Kayla Wellnitz was chosen to serve a three-year term. Allison Zemlicka will serve a one-year term. 

The Chamber also elected its executive officers for 2026-2027:

• President- Steve Hicks
• Vice President –  Dakota Wollschlager
• Treasurer –  Nathan Watson
• Secretary –  Elli Fisher
• Past President – Becky Boswell

Other board members include Megan Athey, TJ. Jacoby, and Allison Peiker. Outgoing board member Alex Pauli was thanked for completing his two-year term. The other open seat was vacated earlier by Kasi Schlueter.

The financial report presented showed total income of $269,366.46 through August 30. Expenses exceeded income by $11,458.55 at that point, although September has not yet been reconciled. Watson said they expect the year-end financial report to improve with it most likely being finalized in the positive. 

Josh Wendland was the guest presenter. He spoke on the 1% tax proposal that will appear on the ballot this November. If passed, the additional local 1% sales tax  would go to build a city-owned daycare facility. The estimated construction cost is $4.5 million. Under the proposal, the temporary tax would end once $4.5 million had been collected or after five years, whichever comes first.

In his remarks as incoming president, Hicks thanked Watson, Wollschlager, and Boswell for taking on additional responsibilities after the Chamber director position became vacant last July. He also emphasized the importance of community participation as the organization moves forward.

“This next year, we’re looking forward to community feedback and growth of the Chamber. We’re always looking for feedback, so please reach out if you have ideas or suggestions to benefit our community,” Hicks said.
