A deceased individual was discovered in a cornfield just east of Ortonville on Monday evening, October 19.
Shane Maas, 33, who was farming near Ortonville, notified the Big Stone County Sheriff’s Office at approximately 8 p.m. Deputies responded to the scene and also requested assistance from the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA).
The body – not identified as male or female – was transported to the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office where an autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death and establish formal identification.
According to officials, there is no ongoing danger to the public. More details will be released when available.
