The Grant County Commissioners voted unanimously to approve the second reading of Ordinance 2016-01B which adds Chapter 1215 – Agribusiness activities. The vote was 3-0. Doug Stengel abstained and Paul Dummann absent.
A public hearing and first reading of Ordinance 2017-01, Removal of Obstructions, was conducted during the regular meeting of the commissioners Tuesday, April 4, with no comments from the public. The second reading and adoption of the ordinance is scheduled for Tuesday, April 18, at 8:30 a.m. in the Grant County Courthouse commission board room.
A report from Geronimo Energy and Next Era was given on the progress of a crossing agreement between the two companies in relation to a proposed wind farm near Milbank. They stated no formal agreement has been finalized, but significant progress has been made. An updated report is scheduled for Tuesday, June 6.
Blaine Gomer of Northern Lights Ethanol requested a right-of-way occupancy from the board. It was approved. The project entails running well pipe in the ditch to two wells near the plant.
“These may be used in the future as a permanent water source,” Gomer stated. “They would also be used for drought backup.” Gomer indicated construction of the project would begin this spring. “We will maintain these lines and have done all we can to make this the most convenient, best, and easiest option for business and landowners in the area.”
The next regular meeting of the Grant County Commissioners is set for Tuesday, April 18, at 8 a.m.
