Dog gone it! Kalen DeBoer, Milbank Bulldog from the Class of 1993, has done it again. DeBoer, now the head coach for the Huskies at the University of Washington, was named the 2023 College Coach of the Year. Home Depot made the announcement late Friday night during the ESPN College Football Awards show.
The national honor marks DeBoer’s most prestigious award to date and the latest in a recent string of accolades that include 2023 PAC 12 Coach of the Year, presented by the Associated Press (AP). It was the second straight season DeBoer earned the PAC 12 coaching award in only his second year with the Huskies.
This season, DeBoer helped UW navigate their way to the New Year’s Six with an undefeated record of 13-0 overall and 9-0 in the Pac12. They beat Oregon twice, including in the championship game, when they notched an exciting, albeit narrow, victory over the Ducks.
Just 24 months into his time at UW, DeBoer’s record stands at 24-2. He has built up a nine-year career total of 103-11.
The Huskies (2) will now face the Texas Longhorns (3) in the 90th Annual Sugar Bowl on New Years Day in New Orleans.
