Kim DeVries, 67, of Milbank, SD, passed away on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, at St. William’s Care Center in Milbank.
- Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 9, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Mundwiler Funeral Home in Milbank. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Rev. Daniel Lopez will officiate. Burial will be held at a later date in the Milbank City Cemetery.
Kim Charles DeVries was born on January 25, 1958, in Brookings, SD. He was the son of Allen and Adah (Quincey) DeVries. Kim grew up in Sioux Falls, SD. He graduated from Washington High School in 1978. Kim moved to Las Vegas, NV, and spent 20 years working in the kitchen at Imperial Palace Casino.
Kim loved to play slot machines and bingo. He would always call his family to let them know when he hit a big jackpot. He loved Las Vegas and swimming during his off time. He had a little white dog named Peanut who was his close companion. His biggest hobby of all was watching movies: the scarier the better. He started collecting movies and amassed a fairly sizeable collection.
After retiring from his job, Kim’s sister flew to Vegas to move him home. He was happy to be reunited with his family, especially his twin, Kevin. Kim got an apartment next to Kevin so they could spend time together. Kim worked at the Alco store in Milbank until it closed. Working there gave him access to movies, so his collection grew to a total of 6,700.
Kim was a kind and gentle man. He loved all animals and children. He loved spending time with his nieces and nephews. He enjoyed going to rummage sales, the thrift store, and Hardee’s. He was a Minnesota Vikings fan, and Kevin was a Green Bay Packers fan which could produce some interesting incidents with them.
Kim was happy living in Milbank where he could be close to family, and his family was so glad to have him home. After Kevin moved to St. Williams Care Center following his stroke, Kim would walk up there to play games and spend time with him.
Health problems made it necessary for Kim to move to St. Williams Care Center in October of 2024. He was never quite the same after Kevin died on May 31, 2024. He asked about him often and said how much he missed him. They are both together again, and they are both dearly missed.
Left to cherish Kim’s memory are his mother: Adah DeVries of Milbank, SD; brother, Miles DeVries (Ann Will) of Milbank, SD; sister, Marcy Smith of Milbank, SD; nieces and nephews: Angie DeVries-Salas of Sioux Falls, SD; Chad (Nicole) DeVries of Sioux Falls, SD; Chris (LaRae) DeVries of Sioux Falls, SD; Ashley Smith of Sioux Falls, SD; and Heather Rademaker of Milbank, SD; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Allen DeVries; brother, Kevin DeVries; niece, Wendy Smith; his maternal grandparents; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
