Nonoal Mendoza to Play in Middle School All-State Band

Uziel Nonoal Mendoza, a student at Milbank Middle School, will play 12th chair clarinet in the Festival Band during the 27th Annual South Dakota Middle School All-State Band event on March 7. The event is presented by the South Dakota Music Educators Association (SDMEA). Over 500 students from 71 schools throughout the state auditioned for a place in one of the bands. Susan Karels, Milbank band instructor for grades 6-12 will accompany Uziel to the event.
The concert begins at 2:30 p.m. in the Mitchell High School Performing Arts Center. The concert will feature over 200 sixth through eighth graders from across the state in two bands. Mr. Jason Rygg and Mrs. Jennifer Adams will serve as their conductors.
Admission to the concert is $5. Tickets will be available for purchase at the door, during Friday’s registration, and the afternoon of the concert. Students 18 and under are admitted free.
The event is in keeping with the mission of the National Association for Music Education to advance music education by promoting the understanding and making of music by all. SDMEA is a state affiliate of the National Association for Music Education. With over 400 members, SDMEA is the largest association of instructional musicians in the state catering to the needs of band, choral, general music, and orchestral teachers.
