MHS senior Keira Steffen has qualified to compete at the 2026 National Speech & Debate Tournament. She will join her teammates, Tate Pew and Bri Hicks, who qualified on February 21. The group will attend the event in Richmond, Virginia, from June 14-19.
Steffen earned her way by placing second of 38 in the House section of Congressional Debate at South Dakota’s National Qualifying Congress-Big Question Tournament. The event was held at Brandon Valley High School on Friday, March 13.
Hicks also attended the tournament She placed fourth in Big Question Debate..
Kathy Tyler, MHS debate coach, commented, “Debate has the longest season of any extra-curricular—from November through mid-March. The time and effort debaters and oral interp students dedicate to their events is rewarded in their final tournaments. They do Milbank proud!”
