
Paige Zempel, née Frazee, a 2015 graduate of Milbank high School, has been named the 2025 Trooper of the Year by the South Dakota Highway Patrol. The award was presented on June 3 during the 14th Annual Highway Patrol Awards Ceremony in Sioux Falls. Zempel has served with the highway patrol for nearly six years and is stationed with the Glacial Lakes squad.
“Trooper Zempel is widely respected for her strong work ethic, professionalism, teamwork, and commitment to the community. In addition to serving as a District Crash Coordinator, she remains a top contributor to highway safety through proactive enforcement and public engagement,” stated Colonel Casey Collins, Superintendent of the South Dakota Highway Patrol, who presented Zempel with her award. The South Dakota Trucking Association, South Dakota Auto Dealers Association, and AAA of South Dakota sponsored the event.
After graduating from MHS, Zempel obtained her law enforcement certification at Lake Area Technical College and worked for the Milbank Police Department for two years. She then attended and graduated from South Dakota’s police academy in Pierre.
